Nuotang Opera in Wenping village
Nuotang Opera is a sort of performance derived from ancient religious customs for driving out ghost and bad luck. It spreads widely among nationalities of the Tujia, Miao, Dong, Buyi, Gelo and Han in the eastern , northern , southern and southeastern parts of Guizhou province. Nuotang Opera Troupe of Wenping Town is reputed at home and abroad for its vivid perforamance with various masks. Wenping Town is named as home to Nuotang Opera.

 

Nuo Opera in Luoga village
Luoga Village is in the Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County in the western part of Guizhou. Luoga villagers are the only people who can give a performance of the Nuo Opera fo Cuotaiji. In the Yi language, Cuotaiji means an era that mankind appears. Six people are needed to act in the performance of the Cuotaiji. Five of them wear masks except the mountain-Forest Old Man. The Opera consists of 4 sections: sacrifice, cultivation, celebration and good wishes. It begins on the 5th of January in the Chinese lunar calendar. The last section comes on the 15th of January. The performances are usually given in the evening.
