The southern Great Wall, close to Huangsiqiao ancient town, about 10Km away from Fenghuang city, China phoenix town, there about 190KMs great wall have been discovered in April 2000, and this great wall built in 1554 by the rulers of the Ming Dynasty for the purpose of military usage to defend the kingdom against the Mio people of the south. The Southern Wall starts north from Xiqueying (Xique military camp) of Guzhang county in western Hunan province and south to Huanghuiying (Huanghui military camp) of Tongren City in Guizhou Province. The wall in Huangsiqiao area is the greater part, and remains well, about 380Meters long, 2.3meters tall, 1.7meters wide at its base, and 1meter wide on top. The Great Wall has over 800 batteries, watchtowers and gates of the pass. Huangsiqiao town, means Huang family Silk Bridge, named as: in ancient time, Huang's family a worker produce the better silk with reasonable price, and earned over many years, then he built a bridge over the river to combine the 2 banks so that the Miao people could easily to the town and buy silk, and also the bridge increased the exchange and contact between the Han and Miao people, so the Miao people named the town as Huangsiqiao. The town over 600meters in circumference with gate towers to the east, west and north, about 100 families live in this old town with several old tilted houses. |
