1, May 2008, 8.0 Magnitude Earthquake and Wolong Panda.
Wenchuan Earthquake happened at 14:28, 12May 2008, in Wenchuan and Yinxiu, Beichuan, Mianzhu, Pengzhou area, Sichuan Provinc, P.R.China. Affected area covers Sichuan, Chongqing, Gansu, Shanxi, Hubei, Yunnan etc. Almost all western area roads in Sichuan were blocked.
Till 12:00 of 07 July, 2008, the death toll from the devastating earthquake rose to 69,196, injured people rose to 374,176, and 18,397 people were missing. And the aftershocks maybe take place about one month. The aftershocks have not break till now, and at about 16:28 on 25May an aftershocks took another time stronly (Magnitude 6.4). Total more than 16,200 aftershocks took in China quaked zone.

2, Tourists and Earthquake.
To ensure the earthquake relief transportation, as well as to protect tourists' body healthy, the needs of epidemic prevention, from the 13May 2008 all tourists (both Chiense and foreigners) are not allowed to Sichuan for touring, this order issued by China National Tourism Administration and Sichuan Tourism Administration.
And Sichuan reopened to Tourists to saft aera in June; 3-4 Flights between Jiuzhaigou and Chengdu in late June.

3, Earthquake and Wolong.
About the wild panda, almost about 1590 wild pandas in China, and no dead body found till now.
And in Wolong, with total population of more than 6000, about 47 local people injured, and about 40 local people died. No died for the Wolong Panda Center staff.
Almost all captive panda Enclosures has been destroyed. and 6 captive pandas ever escaped from the Enclosure, 4 of them re-captured(3 captured before 14May, one captured on 26May). One panda (Maomao) died in the Enclosure, two panda injured.
At the time of earthquake, about 34 foreigners (foreign tourists) in Wolong, all of them safe and brought to Chengdu by Heli on both 15May and 16May.
Till 26 May 2008, almost all blocked roads okey for basic transportation, but the roads in Wenchuan area (along Minjiang river) still blocked (about 8 KM bloacked), also blocked to Wolong, and aftershocks still taking place..

4, Earthquake and Wolong reconstruction.
Almost all panda facilities has been destroyed in the earthquake, 18 panda enclosures (panda houses) destroyed, othee panda enclosures were in dangerous.And about 6117 hectares in Wolong Reserve was destroyed by earthquake (Wolong Reserve total area about 203601 hectares).
So most of Wolong Research & Conservation staff will migrate to Bifengxia.
And the reconstruction site will be slected in Huangcaoping - Shenshuping - Tiantaishan area in Xingfu Valley, Genda township, instead of Heitaoping area. And it will take about 3 years to finish the reconstruction for short-term construction.
The Wolong reconstruction are: 7 Wild Panda Conservation Station (Dengsheng station, Mujiangping station, Sanjiang station, Sandaoqiao site, Haoziping site, Lurping site and Genda site), Wuyipeng Renovation, 100 routes for wild tracking; And in Research Center: Research Laboratory  (650 sq meters), Animal hospital, Raising & training for panda return to wild, Panda Education Center, Bamboo Base, 30 raising enclosures, 20 breeding enclosures; Digit panda research.
In addition, Centers for Disease Control of Panda will be built in Dujiangyan: 40 panda raising enclosures, Panda Research Laboratory, Animal hospital.
 

5, Panda Migration and Earthquake.
One panda missing.
One panda dead from earthquake took on 21May.
6 pandas migrated to Bifengxia on 23 May.
8 Olympic Pandas migrated to Beijing Zoo on 24May.
13 pandas migrated to Bifengxia on 18 June.
6 pandas moved to Bifengxia on 24June.
4 pandas moved to Fuzhou Panda World on 24June.
3 pandas take flight to Yunnan Wildlife World on 26June. They are: Sijia, born 12Aug 2006; Meixi, born 10Aug 2006; Yuyu, born 11Sep 2006.
5 pandas take flight to Panyu Xiangjiang Wildlife World on 26June.
7 pandas has been relocated in another safe place in Wolong instead of Heitaoping.
13 pandas moved to Bifengxia on 21July 2008.

6, Panda and volunteer tour

Sichuan Earthquake area needs  a lot of support for earthquake relief, victims living, housing rebuilding such as tents, foods, water, funds.
And Wolong area also needs a lot of supplies for panda's food, captive panda bears enclosure rebuilding etc.

06July 2008, the giant panda Guo Guo, gave birth to twins at Bifengxia, branch of  the China Conservation & Research Center for the Giant Pandas. The twins are the first to be born this year and the first since the devastating earthquake took on 12May in Wenchuan. Guo Guo was one of the six pandas migrated on 22May from Wolong to Bifengxia after earthquake.
