| Back to Sichuan Index Back to Sanxingdui Index The Sanxingdui
Museum sits on the river-sided space northeast of the site.
Construction began in August 1992 and was officially opened to the public
in May 1997. The Museum, including auxiliary facilities, covers
approximately 200,000 square meters, of which an area of 7,000 square
meters is occupied by the exhibition centre. Total cost of
construction added up to RMB 30 million (USD 1 = RMB 8.28). The building of the Museum
looks likes a deformed spiral. On top is a triangle tower as if a
ladder leading to the heaven. Hanging on the tower are three large
bronze masks, which are the symbols of the museum. The exhibits are displayed in
four exhibition halls as follow: Hall 1: Splendor of Ancient
Shu Culture It offers an overall
introduction to a history of ancient Sichuan as well as brilliant
achievements made by the old Sanxingdui-based Shu State in various fields. Hall 2: Mystery of the
Primitive Faith Artifacts and relics on
display, reinforced by special techniques, are use to form a series of
panoramic views, plus a simulated show of everyday life. Thus, the
political structure and social quality of the Sanxingdui town state and
the psyches of ancient Shu people are revealed. Hall 3: Exquisite Cultural
Artifacts The choice of the excavated
artifacts by thousands are on display here; over ten groups of national
treasures. Hall 4: Sanxingdui:
Excavation and Study Over last decades, several
generations of archaeologists have been engaged in a painstaking work in
succession on the Sanxingdui site, this unit is an informative unfolding
of the archaeological progress at the site. Also some related
aspects, such as the influence of the archaeology of Sanxingdui overseas,
the cultural significance and the current progress of the study are under
scrutiny. |
