There are many traditional folk dwelling houses in A'ba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, but they differ from one to another in style, structure and form. Most of the dwelling houses are in good shape and have special cultural features. Among those, the typical ones are Jogze Chieftain's offical residences of Jiarong Tibetans and Blockhouse (Qiang Twoer, or Qiang Diao, stone house) of Qiang People.

Jiarong Tibetans is one of the branches of Tibetan Nationality. It enjoys a long and glorious history with particular culture. Jogze Chieftain's offical residence is the most typical and representative folk dwelling houses of

 

 Jiarong Tibetans. Situated at foot of mountains, tier upon tier, it has a dwelling house area of about 1400 m². And the main dwelling houses materials are stones and woods, having a style of quadrangle dwelling houses. The walls are piled up by stones, inserted by polished glutinous rice and slaked lime. The inner side of the walls are made of joint planks and column caps. The offical residence has a swelling houses style of both Tibetan and Han people. Due to exquisite craftsmanship and ingenious construction, the offical residence has a graceful structure and form.

The blockhouse is the traditional folk dwelling houses of Qiang people. The typical one has a square shape, narrower upper side and broader lower side and the walls are usually make of stones. It has three floors, the top floor is used for storing grain and clothes, the middle floor for people and the first floor is the place for livestock. Each household is connected with one another. Entering into the  blockhouse, watching Qiang girl's embroidering, dancing with Qiang youngsters, you can experience the life and customs of Qiang People, which will leave you endless good impressions and memories.

Aba, Loacted in the northwestern part of Sichuan, A'ba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture has a land of 84200 kmē and a total population of 813000. Three are 15 nationalities living here including Tibetan, Qiang, Han, Hui Nationality and so on.

Because this prefecture is situated on the southern edge of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, it boasts vast pastures and grassland, which feed numerous livestock such as cattle and sheep. The swamp here, once great obstacle for Red Army during the Long March now has turned into pasturelands. Minchan Mountains and Qionglai Mountains meet here, which brings about diverse land forms and various climates, thus resulting in ecotones of  plants and providing good natural enviroment for the inhabitation and reproduction of precious animals and birds. The prefecture is abundant in scenic spots such as Jiuzhaigou Valley, Huanglong Temple, Siguniangshan, Wolong Reserve, Kalonggou and so on. Moreover, this prefecture is also rich in special local products. Here, Qiang & Tibetan people are honest and unspoiled and their folkway enjoys a special characteristic.

In Maoxian & Wenchuan counties living Tibetan and Qiang nationality together. The wood-board houses and barbicans are the distributed in the green mountains and waters. The local people are homeliness and soulful and hospitality to guests. If you are agreed, you may be a guest of their family. You must get candies ready for the children and you may be welcome. buttered tea is one of  the main foods. Jun15 of the lunar calendar every year is the Fair Day of Huanglong Temple, when thousand of people from all directions gather here, having a jolly time.
