YongRen ZhiZuo (YiJu, Chuxiong, Yunnan) Traditional Costume Festival of Yi Ethnic People is held every year, traditionally on date of 15th of the first Chinese lunar month, that is 15th date of Chinese new year, at Zhizuo township in Yongren county, lasting 3 days. As well as it being held at neighbour towns, and in recent years it was sponsored by local government and date maybe on other dates, for example in 2011 on 09Dec as "Yi Clothing Fashion Week Race'".

People History Tradition Culture Festival The costume festival of competition usually starts at noon. It is opened with music begins by a fanfare on the suona (a woodwind instrument) and the lusheng (a reed-pipe wind instrument). Groups of beautifully dressed young girl then stand at the center of the platform at the hillside. Their singing and dancing signals the opening of the event. And another famous Yi Ethnic Haute Couture Festival is held on every 28th March, at Santai township, Dayao county. The Haute Couture, or Dress, Garment, Clothing festival, means competition of traditional clothing of Yi girls. This festival traced back to nearly two thousand years, Yi people gathering on a hillside in Yongren County for their annual costume festival. At the festival, Yi girl dance and sing in coloure and bright clothes, with various patterns embroidered in the clothes, hats, embroidered aprons, satchel, shirts, trousers, shoes, insoles, belts, handbags, wearing silver ornaments. Patterns are thunder, lightning, storms, the sun, the moon and stars, landscape, stone, flowers and birds, beasts etc. Display their embroidery works to attract the Yi boy's eyes. This is a chance for young people match-making. Young men looking for a match look carefully at the dresses and ornaments that have been paraded. They use them as a guide to which of the girls is the most intelligent and diligent. His decision made, a young man takes an ornament made by the lady of his choice and walks to a forest on the hillside.
