Hancheng Huanglongshan Brown Eared Pheasant Nature Reserve   

Hemaji (in Chinese), Brown Eared Pheasant ( Crossoptilon Mantchuricum),   is endemic to northern China, where it is now found at scattered localities in the Luliang Shan mountains range in western Shanxi, and the mountain ranges in north-western Hebei, western Beijing and Huanglongshan area - central Shaanxi. 

The population is estimated as 5000 birds in the wild Brown Eared-pheasant in protecting area, but some other not in protecting area at poor estimation, so maybe total population is estimated as 17000 birds by birds experts.

100cm in length for its body, Crown eared pheasant as similar as Blue eared pheasant, but gray-crown for its body. 

Live in high mountains and in the forest, nesting in bushes or in small hollows on the ground. Mainly vegetarian, digs for tubers and rootlets, eats stems, leaves, buds, fruits and seeds, including spilt grain.

These  reserves to protect Brown Eared Pheasants such as: Guandishan-Pangquangou reserve, established in 1980,  locate at northernwest, Shaanxi;  Luyashan Nature Reserve, close to Guandishan reserve, estblished in 1988; Xiao Wutaishan (Small Wutaishan) Reserve, locate at Wei county, Hebei, established in 1983; Tianlong Shan Nature Reserve; Beijing Donglingshan; The largest and newest established, Huanglongshan Nature Reserve which special to protect this species.
