Qinghai Lake 
Qinghai  (Kokonor,  Koko nor, Tsi Ngonpo, or Qinghaihu in Chinese) Lake is the largest lake in China, covering an area of 4282 square kilometers. The lake sits at an altitude of 3194 meters, located from 97º53` to 101º13`E and 36º28` to 38º25`N, annual average temperature -0.7ºC, in Jul between 10.4ºC-15.2ºC, in Jan -10.4ºC---14.7ºC, 100km apart from Xining, is one of the 7 largest wetlands in China. 
About189 species of birds, and Quanwan area in the lake is the breeding area for Black-necked cranes, and also Qinghai lake is the wintering place for swan, total birds over 300000 birds.
Most species of birds are, (each over 50000 birds), Larus brunnicephalus, Larus ichthyaetus, Auser indicus, Phalacrocorax carbo. The rare birds are Black necked crane, swan etc.
The best place to watch birds are Bird Island (Dandao, Egg Island), Haixinshan Hill, Shadao (Sand Island), Sankuaishi, Erlangjian, Jinyingtan etc. To Haixinshan and Sankuaishi only by boats, and to other place by car or trek. In Dandao (Egg Island, Bird Island) and Sand Island to watch Auser indicus and Larus brunnicephalus, in Haixipi (2km to Egg Island) for Phalacrocorax carbo,   in Quanwan (Spring bend) for Black necked crane.
Bird Island, covers an area of 0.8 sq km, about 500m in length and width about 150m, better time to watch birds in Apr, May and Jun in spring, and Sep, Oct and Nov in Autumn.

Longbaotan Black Necked Crane Nature Reserve
Longbaotan Black Necked Crane Nature Reserve, 80km from Jykedoo (Yushu), is the home of Black-necked carne for its breeding area in spring and summer, alt 4200m, abut 25km in length and 3km in width, from 33º09` to 33º17N, and 96º24` to 96º37`E, average temperature in Jan -11.1ºC, in Jul 9.3ºC, annual -0.4ºC, annual rainfall about 730mm mainly from Jun to Sep.
With more than 30 species of birds in the reserve, the main protecting birds are black necked carne and its environment.
