Field tour to Huaxi and Xiling mountain for Azaleas
Huaxi West China Subalpine Botanical Garden, locates at
Dujiangyan, about 30KM to Dujiangyan city, about 90KM to
Chengdu, covers an area of 100 hectares, established in 1986 by
both Dujiangyan City and China Institute of Botany (affiliated
of Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS). Lies
at between east longitude 103˚27', north
latitude 30˚44', altitude from 600 to 4000m, core area from
1700-1800M, average annual temperature is 8˚C, average
annual rainfall 1800mm. Famous for its Azaleas, Davidia, Primula.
Azaleas Garden (Rhododendron, Rhododendra, Rhodoendron Indicum,
Rhodo, Azaiea, Dujuan in Chinese), there about 300 species
of cultivated azaleas in Huaxi Garden, the best and the rarest Azaleas as
follow:
Rhododendron davidii;
Rh. calophytum;
Rh. dendroncharis;
Rh. rex;
Rh. faberi;
Rh. strigillosum;
Rh. ririei;
Rh. hunnewellianum;
Rh. nitidulum var.omeiense;
Rh. discolor.
Others rare plants as:
Cardiocrinum giganteum;
Prumula pulverulenta; Davidia involucrata etc.
