Brief Introduction to China Wuyishan Wuyi Shan Nature Reserve Biosphere

Wuyishan, or Mount Wuyi, Wuyi Shan, Wuyi Mountain, are a mountain range located at the prefecture Nanping, at the northern border of Fujian province with Jiangxi province, China, cover an area of 60 kmē, lies between east longitude 117˚55'--118˚01', north latitude 27˚35'--27˚43', is a world-class biosphere in both fauna and flora, is a bank with more than 100 rare wildlife species. The targets of the protection in the reserve include mountain forest ecosystem in mid sub-tropical zone and rare species. The top Huangganshan  at 2158meters above sea level.

There are intact ecosystem of both primitive forest and primitive secondary forest, obvious vertical divergence of plants, and biggest evergreen broad-leafed forest of sub-tropic in China. This region is a junction between Pan-arctic and Old Tropic flora. Know as species sample holy land, about more than 2000 species of plants: 1800 are higher plants, and 10 of them are state protected rare species. In addition, there are also fluent animal resources in this region, and 400 of them are wild life, and more than 5000 species of insects, is one of famous insects specimen region in the world., 162 kinds of birds, 64 kinds of snakes. One new kind of Erathworm at Huanggangshan area, this erathworm as big as finger. And more new species being found in Wuyi Mountain.

In Dazhulan area, about 12km from Sangang, this is the world of insects, and about 580 new species insects found in this area; Dazhulan is also the bamboos world, as well as hundreds of herbals.
Guadun area, is the paradise of wildlife, about 3km from Sangang, more than 140 kinds of birds in this area, there is a river valley about 5km in length, with various kinds of birds, insects, snakes, frogs, monkeys. And some of them are new species.
Huangken, is the kingdom of snakes, about 30km from Sangang, about 61 species of snakes, total about 10.000.000 snakes in Wuyishan area, the rarest is long-noded pit viper (Wubushe in Chinese). And there is a snake researching house in Huangken.

Tragopan caboti (Huanghu Jueji), Syrmaticus ellioti, Neofelis nebulosa, Panthera pardus, Panthera tigris, Muntiacus crinifrons, Andirias davidianus, Falco peregrinus, Rana tigrina, Aix galericulata, Aviceda leuphotes, Milvus migrans, Haliastur indus, Accipiter gentilis, Accipiter soloensis, Accipiter nisus, Accipiter virgatus, Buteo buteo, Butastur indicus, Spizaetus nipalensis, Spilornis cheela, Aquila cyaneus, Circus cyaneus, Pandion haliaetus, Microhierax, Teinopalpus aureus, Carabus lafossei feisthamel, Troides accacus, Sasakia funebris, Agehana elwesi, Sercinus montela etc.

Ginkgo biloba, Taxus chinensis, Taxus mairei, Bretschneidera sinensis, Magnolia officinalis, Magnolia officinalis subsp.biloba, Liriodendron chinense, Torreya grandis, Torreya fargesii vat Wuyishansis, Phoebe chekiangensis, Semiliquidambar, cathayensis, Cinnamomum camphora, Ormosia henryi, Toona ciliata var: opubescens, Camptotheca acuminata, Phellodendron chinense, Emmenopterys henryi, Cibotium barometz, Ceratopteris thalictroides, Fokienia hodginsii etc.
