2005' Exploration & Adventure Tour
Overland Drive from Chengdu to Tibet via Kham

This itinerary consists of 4 parts, you can select and join part2 and any other part of them, also you can share the full itinerary.
Part 1
27Apr(Sat), Chengdu--Ya'an--Moxi (Hailuogou Glaicer) by 4-wheel drive land-cruiser, tour in Hailuogou in the afternoon, stay in Jinshan hotel(3stars, altitude 4300M around).
28Apr(Sun), One day investigation in Hailuogou, stay in Moxi hotel.
Part 2
29Apr(Mon), Drive to Kangding,  acrosse Daduhe River in Luding County, enter the Kham (Kangba in Chinese) Tibetan area,  visit Monastery in Kangding city. the sidewalks of Kangding are crowded with Hui, Chinese Muslims, and Tibetans who have come down from highlands to sell wild mushrooms, vegetables, various paraphernalia. stay in Kangding hotel. 
And some members who travel without Hailuogou, will drive today from Chengdu to Kangding, then merged with the front part.
30Apr(Tue), Visit Mt.Paoma (horse riding, or Race horse Hill) park, Princess Bridge, then cross over Zhedao Mountain Pass(4296m), arrive at  Tagong Grassland, visit Tagong Temple, drive over Daxue Mountain,  across Songlin Pass(3951meters) drive through Daohu County and along the XianShui (fresh water) River,  visit Linque Temple in Xianshui town,  pass through  Lhufu County,  drive over Luoguo Liangzi Pass (3970meters) then arrival at Ganzi county, visit Ganzi Monastery. On the road, we will stop along the way to photograph wild animals, herbs of yaks temples, stupas, people and anything that grabs your fancy, stay in KamBa hotel. 
01May(Wed), Drive into Yalong River valley, then turn right at Maniganguo town to Zoichen Monastery after cross Mt.Haizi pass(4571meters), King Temple of Gesar in Axu town, then back to Zoichen Monastery for night. 
02May(Thu), Drive back to Xinluhai Lake(Yilhun Lhatso), a lake surrounded by scenic mountains, we will stroll along the pilgrim's trail where you can see thousands of carved mani stones, then drive over Mt.Quer pass(4889meters),  arrive at Dege (Derge) County, stay Dege hotel. 
In dege, there are plenty of places to explore: Dege printing house which retains many original murals and objects; The Tibetan Medicine Hospital, which is also a factory, is a storehouse of herbs, antlers, bats, snakes, and other plants and animals collected from the far reaches of the Tibetan plateau; Gengchen Monastery in Dege town.
03May(Fri), Visit Dege printing house, and also drive to visit Palpang (Pelpung or Bapang) Monastery, Palpung ranks second in the hierarchy of Karma Kagyu sect monasteries, and has Ugyen Rinpoche, an 12-year-old(in 2001) living Buhdda, in residence. stay in Palpung Monastery for night.
04May(Sat),  Go to visit Baiya(Pewar) Monastery, which house one of the finest sets of Buddhist murals in western Sichuan, and paintings are more than 270years old and cover more than 370 square meters which survived the destruction inflicted by  the Cultural Revolution, visit farmhouses, fortress, then back to Dege hotel for night.
If weather or road bad, today's cancelled, then extra one day stay in Jiangda (Jamda). 
05May(Sun), Drive across Jinsha River (Yangtse river), which here the border of Sichuan and Tibet, enter Xizang Tibetan Automoue Region, drive across Mt.Aila pass(4245M), pass through Jiangda, cross over Xueqila Pass (4460M) and Mt.Zonglayi Pass(4481M), drive over Damala Mountain,  with clutters of prayer flags waving in the wind on the peaks and friendly nomads waving at us from grasslands, then arrival at Changdu (Chamdo) city, which located at Lanchangjiang River's valley area, stay in Changdu hotel. 
06May(Mon), Visit Jampaling Monastery, Karu Relics, free market, Tibetan hospital, stay in Changdu hotel.
07May(Tue), Drive to Ranwu, view of Bangda Grass Land and Bangda A'port which located the hithest altitude all over the world,  acrose Lujiang River, Duola Mountain, view of Ranwu Lake, stay in Ranwu for night.
08May(Wed), Draive from Ranwu to Bayi Town pass through Linzhi (Nyingchi) and Bomy county, pass through Pailong Valley which 10Km needs 3hours driving, view of Yigong Lake, we will have spectacular views of Mount Gyala Pelri(7150m) and Mount Namchak Barwa(7756m), then arrive at Bayi town, which is the capital of Linzhi District, Stay in Bayi Guest House. 
09May(Thu), Today, drive along Yaluzhangbujiang (Yalung Tsangpo or Parlung Tsangpo) River, pass through Miling, Langxian, Qusong, then arrivial at Tzedang (Tsedang), view of scenes of valley and land fields, and also view of scenic terrain with lush alpine forests, stay in Tzedang hotel (3stars hotel).
10May(Fri), Visit Yongbulakang Monastery, Tibetan King Tomb, Changzhu Monastery, stay in Tzedang hotel.
11May(Sat), Drive to Lhasa, and Visit Samye Monastery acorse the river by boat & Mindroling Monastery on the road, view of Yamdrok Lake, stay in Tibet Mansion hotel (3stars).
12May(Sun), Some members ends tour today in the morning, flight to Chengdu or Kathemandu after b'fast.
Part 3
12May(Sun),  Potala Palace,Jukhang Monastery, Norbulingka Palace and Bakhor market street, stay in Tibet Mansion hotel.
13May(Mon), Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Tibetan Hospital, stay in Tibet Mansion hotel.
14May(Tue), Ends tour today in the morning, flight to Chengdu or Kathemandu after b'fast.
Part 4
11May(Sat), Tzedang--Gyantze. Another part, after visit both Samye Monastery acorse the river by boat & Mindroling Monastery on the road,  pass by Yamdrok Lake, then drive to Gyantze (Jiangzhi) city, stay Gyantze hotel.
12May(Sun), Visit Palchoi (Baiju) Monastery, then drive to Xigatze (Shigatse) town, visit Tashilumpu Monastery, stay in Xigatze Shandong hotel (3stars).
13May(Mon), Drive to Lhasa, then visit Norbulinka Palace, Bhaker Street, stay in Tibet Mansion hotel (3stars).
14May(Tue), Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jukhang Monastery, stay in Tibet Mansion hotel.
15May(Wed), Ends tour today in the morning, flight to Chengdu or Kathemandu after b'fast.

Included in this cost: meals, transportation with experienced driver, accommodation (double occupancy in hotel, hostel and guest house), entrance tickets, guide service, travel body insurance. 
Excluded in this cost: a'ticket, a'tax, service in Chengdu, Tibet-Entry permit.

Note:
1, Participant shall pay 116USD/extra-day if itinerary postponed due to weather, earthfall, and other forces from God and uncontrolled by our Corp.. And also we can adjust the exact itinerary & schedule (include the scenic spots) due to reasons above so that get better to finish it. Even it be canceled  without fine due to China Government policy, and we will refund the rest of your payment.
     And, all air-tickets' on yourself if this itinerary delayed.
2,  Excluded cost : A'ticket for Lhasa---Chengdu single way 150USD/person; A'tax, 7USD each; Tibet-entry permit, 60USD/person with non-refundable even failed in permit;   Accommodation in Chengdu, Jinhe Hotel(3stars), 38USD/room, per night, with b'fast.
     And also we suggest that you'd better buy another body insurance in your country.
3,  Number of Participants will be limited under 25persons. If over, we will arrange another itinerary & schedule as: 
From 15May(Wed) to 28May(Tue), drive start at Lhasa, pass through Tsedang, Bayi, Lhinchi, Ranwu, Bangda, Chamdo, Dege, Ganzi, Kangting, then arrival at Chengdu, The cost is the same aboves. And we will plan to arrange these adventure travel in 2003, also April & May is our best.
4,  We will arrange this adventure travel for you according to your departure time if you are group of 3-6 persons with a little higher costs, over 6 persons with the same costs. Also we can arrange the customized adventure travel in this area according to your request.  
5,   Some people such as journalist etc will be refused to travel in these area.

Cancellation policy

  • If the trip is cancelled by us then your money is completely refundable.
  • If you cancel after April 01 and before April 15, 2002, your money is refundable except for a $300 cancellation fee.
  • If you cancel on the driving land survey road, then no refundable.

Travel on the Tibetan plateau, like all adventure travel, contains risks. If you want a safe, predictable holiday, we suggest you adjusted your destinations. Those who participate in this trip will be asked to sign an indemnification agreement absolving us from responsibility for various circumstances not under our control. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Weather/road conditions that alter intended routes.
  • Aggressive dogs.
  • Lack of modern medical facilities.
  • Political disturbances that impel the government to close certain areas.
  • Holes in the street, bumps on the highway, rocks on the trail, rivers in flood, dust, smog, wind, noise, and other petty nuisances.
  • Odoriferous toilets.
  • Strange food (we will do our best to provide healthy, tasty meals, but remember: this is not in Newyork City).
