Tour
Code: T-TT140C
Overland
tour through Central Tibet with moderate 6 days trakking to N.Face Everest
Base camp.
This
is perhaps the most popular trak in Tibet ,and for good reason .It
involves only moderate trakking but moves from the vast plateau to the
very base of the highest montain in the world .This provides a classic
trip to the cultural sites of Central Tibetcombined with a trak to
Mt.Everest base camp within a relatively short two wekk period.
As
usual ,the tour will take a few days in Lhasa to visit important sites and
acclimatise .We then follow the overland route past Yamdrotso ,through
Gyantse and Shigatse before moving to our frist camp south of Tingri. From
here we can already see Everest (Qomolungma)and the rest of the high
Himalaya rising on along the soughern border of Tibet .Our trakking begins
with a gradual incline to cross the Lamar La on the second day and then
drops into the Rongphulvalley. We then follow the gentle valleysouth to the
famous Rongphuk monastery (it was here that Mallory based his two Everest
expeditions )and onto the current Everest BASE CAMP .During the May season
this area will be bustling with professional mountaineering teams and we
will also leave a couple days to explore the area(you can follow the
expedition route safely to quite high altitude if energy allows). Our
vehicles will then meet us on the 6th day at Rongphuk monastery
and take us the circuitous but motorable route back to the friendship
highway and down to the border.
